The Château Prieuré Borde-Rouge wines
Wine-making the Château Prieuré Borde-Rouge way :
Respecting the years of wine making tradition at the Domaine, we maintain an ongoing quest for authenticity in everything we do in the journey from vine to cellar:
- Respect for the environment
- Manual harvest and sorting
- Careful respect of the berries
- Gravitational transfer of the harvest
- Manual punching of the cap
- Gentle filtration
Maturing
Rubellis is very carefully clarified to retain it‘s fruitiness. Ange and Carminal are both matured partly in barrels and partly in stainless steel vats.
Top quality wines
Our vineyard, located on arid slopes, predisposes us towards top quality wines. The terroir of Lagrasse, with its thin, poor soils, favours low production volumes and concentrated flavours, two important conditions for making very qualitative and keeper wines.
Unique character
Our wines are true to themselves, and their unique origins, and truly set themselves apart. The terroir itself and the diligent effort of those that work it set the wines of Château Prieuré Borde-Rouge above other wines with which they share the appellation. Behind their initial opulence lies a delicate embroidery of touches of finesse which are more typical of the widely recognised grands vins.
Each of our wines are made to enjoy at different times and occasions
All the choices we make in the wine-making journey from vine to wine are made with the intention of creating individual wines with their own personalities. It’s down to this respect for individuality that we are able to create a Borde-Rouge perfect to accompany a whole range of occasions whether it’s refined celebrations, happy hours enjoying a carefully prepared meal or just the delight of a glass of good wine with a weekday supper. Why not try them all?
Specially selected vines, grown in the best soils of the Domaine make this a wine of truly exceptional quality. The result of both the expertise and artisanal approach of Borde-Rouge, Ange has been lauded and recognised by wine professionals since its first millésime in 2001. It received the Brussels Worldwide Wine Competition "Grande Medaille d’Or", which classifies it amongst the 18 "grands vins" of the world. Its latest millésime 2005 is currently being showered in medals at numerous wine competitions.
Produced from the traditional grape varieties of the Languedoc region : Grenache blanc, macabeu, clairette, it combines vivacity and character. With a partial fermentation and maturing in oak barrels over 4 months, this white wine takes us back to rediscover a delicious palette of flavours and aromas oft forgotten, where white peaches are complemented by hints of honey, aniseed and aromatic herbs.
Drawing upon the great potential of the mineral-laden red soils of the Domaine, Carminal manages to successfully combine complexity with harmony. Thanks to a harmonious blend of the many elements that contribute to the creation of this wine, not least the ongoing quest for best practice and high quality, Carminal has become the emblem of the Château Prieuré Borde-Rouge.
Encapturing the spirit of the all the Borde-Rouge wines, this rosé offers elegance, purity and freshness of flavour.
Rubellis comes from the Domaine’s younger vines and is matured in vats to perfectly conserve a delicious fruitiness. The freshness of the luscious tannins places Rubellis notably ahead of other wines which share the same appellation. It’s the Château Prieuré Borde-Rouge’s unique savoir-faire with regards to the fruits which makes an indispensable contribution to the flair of the final result.
Note for loyal followers of Château Prieuré Borde-Rouge : we have updated the name and labels of our wines. Rubellis has replaced Jardin de Frederic and Carminal has replaced Signature, although Ange, our top cuvee, remains unchanged.
